Here's some kill to drop ratio thingys. Assuming they do indeed have a 1/1000 chance of dropping off of every mob that drops them.

Using the equation 1-.999^x:

100 kills - 9.5% chance of seeing a drop. 1 in 10 people get within 100 kills
200 kills - 18.1% 1 in 5 people get it within 200 kills
500 kills - 39.4% 2 in 5 people get it by this time
1000 kills - 63.2% 3 in 5 people get it by this time
1500 kills - 79.8% 1 in 5 people DO NOT get by this time
2500 kills - 91.8% 1 in 10 people DO NOT get it by this time
4000 kills - 98.2% 1 in 50 people DO NOT get it by this time
6900 kills - 99.9%
1 in 1000 people DO NOT get it by this time

It goes on and on because logic tells us that there will never be a 100% chance of you seeing it drop. You can apply this to the other dragons as well of course.
I love these tables because I can always open em up and go "Wow, thats how unlucky I am! Lets see how unlucky I'll be in the next 100!". Ya know, puts a good spin on not getting what you want.

As a side note, I can't be the only one who finds it odd that you have to slaughter legion upon legion of baby dragons to get one as a pet....
