1. Introduction to Warcraft III Banlist
This program is created to make an effort at keeping your DotA games free of notorious leavers. It can use both a global banlist from banlist.nl (synchronisable from within the program), and a local banlist (to which you can add people yourself) to alert you when a "leaver" joins your game.
The program can do this in various ways:
-Play a sound as a leaver is detected, or banned.
-Display a running text in-game. Example: "Dargon-Knight is a leaver/tk-er, added by Knarf 10-2004", floating by at the top of your Warcraft III screen!
-Copy a text to your copy/paste buffer, so you can watch the comment by pressing CTRL-V.

Further features include:
-Synchronisation with buddies local banlists; either via banlist.nl login or manually via a peer-to-peer connection
-Showing the country / ping to / dns name of joined clients
-A real time log of whispers sent/received in Warcraft III, showing times. Use built-in stylesheets to match the Warcraft III-look or use another to your liking.
-Anti-download option, which enables you to have people who try to download the map (when hosting) auto-kicked.

2. Quick setup
After installing the program, there are a few things to be configured for the program to work correctly.
  1. Install the WinpCap drivers (required)
You can download them from this programs website, from the WinPcap website, http://winpcap.polito.it/install, or directly here: http://winpcap.polito.it/install/bin/WinPcap_3_1_beta_3.exe
  2. Selecting your NIC (network card) (required)
In the first tab of the program, "Warcraft III Snooping", you must select the network card with which you are connected to the internet. Hit "Restart" after changing NIC. If you can receive Warcraft III whispers in your "Messages" tab, you got the right one.
  3. Adding a sound for the event: "Black list alert" (recommended)
In the "Sounds" tab, click on the topmost event: Blacklist Alert, and click the yellow folder right above it. You will be directed to the /sounds folder, where a couple of wav files are located. You can pick the corresponding sounds for the events.
You can also make your own sounds using for example Windows Sound Recorder (start-programs-accessoires-entertainment-sound recorder).

3. Explanation of features
Here follows a quick tour through the various tabs of Warcraft III Banlist, to introduce you to some of the features.

Warcraft III Snooping: In this tab you select your network card which is used to connect to internet (or to your network or router through which you are connected to the internet.
It also keeps a list of recent seen players. When you rightclick on a username you will have the option to ping that player, check the country he/she is from, and some other tools.

Recent Game: Gives a real-time report of you current game. It shows a game timer, and a graphical impression of the Warcraft III loading screen. When you exit a game, you will be able to look back here also. It will stay in the programs memory untill you join a new game. You can also ban people from here by rightclicking on their names.

Local Banlist: Lists all the people on your local banlist. The number behind it shows the number of people on it. You can add names manually here: just type a nickname followed by a comment in the text box (for example: Dargon-knight countdown leaver USeast), and hit the Add button. You can of course also choose not to include a comment.
Further options: From this screen you can also export your banlist to a txt file. It will include all the comments. Other people using this program can then import this file using the button beside it: Import banlist from txt file. They will also be able to see any comments you added to these names. Tip: you also can exchange local banlists using a direct Peer-To-Peer connection in the Miscellaneous tab; this is discussed later.

Banlist.nl : This screen is related to the global banlist for ROC dota, published by banlist.nl. Once imported, you can tell the banlist program to also check the usernames on this list. Buddie's Banlist is still being worked on: in the future it will be possible to login to banlist.nl, define buddies there, and automatically synchronise your banlists. Right now you can exchange eachothers banlists via a direct ip-link (peer-to-peer), which is implemented in the next tab.
Note: In the preferences tab, "Download the banlist from www.banlist.nl when program starts" must be enabled to use this global banlist.

Miscellaneous: Lists the commands that you can use inside Warcraft III. If you enabled "View messages within Warcraft III as running text" in Preferences -> Messaging, there will ofcourse be no need to press ctrl-V for the feedback.

Banlist Exchange: Enter the ip-adress of a friend using this program too to update eachothers banlists with your new entries.
Note :"Enable Peer To Peer Local Banlist Exchange (server)" must be enabled to use this feature.

Check a particular nickname will search your local banlist for the name entered. Works the same as the in-game "/check" command.

Sounds: Sets the audio files which will be played at certain events. Default sounds are found in the program folder, in the Sounds directory.
  1. The sound Blacklist Alert will be played when a banlisted person enters your game.
  2. Ban sound will play when a leaver is successfully banned.
  3. Response sound will play on confirmation of any other command, such as /ping, or /check.
  4. Leaver sound will be played if a player leaves the current game. If you are the host: Only players that have really left the game (not lagged out) will cause this sound to be played. If you are not host: This sound will play both when someone leaves and when someone lags out.
  5. Same IP sound will be played if someone enters a game with the same IP as someone else who has joined your games. This list is cleared every day, and will allow you to see if someone is changing accounts to get into your game.
Note: Using the "Clear List" in the Snooping tab will clear all stored IP's!
  6. Whisper sound will play when someone whispers you.
  7. Game Start sound will play when... the game starts!
Preferences:
-Www.banlist.nl: Contains some settings for synchronizing with the global banlist from www.banlist.nl. Also sets the data for the buddies banlist, which will be enabled hopefully in the near future.
-Phrases: You can add your own default text quotes here for useage with the /p command in-game. Add a new phrase using the "+" button, then edit the name and the text to be written. Example: Phrase: "ban1", Name of Phrase: "ban1", Text to be written: "$shiftenter I am using a banlist program. Leave my game and you will never join my games again." This will cause the specified text to be displayed in WarcraftIII as if you was doing shift-enter, aka speaking to all.
Note: Take care when entering the text to be phrased. Every character that you play will be sent to War3; therefore dont forget to hit (enter) at the end of the phrase!
-Anti-download: Lets you prevent people joining your game who dont have the map. Select your method which suits your system and add your friends on the "Exceptions list" if you want.
-NIC Settings: The default settings here should work fine. Enable Peer to Peer Local Banlist Exchange to use the ip-based local banlist sharing in the miscellaneous tab.
-Messaging: Allows you to specify if and how Warcraft III Banlist should use running text (recommended). Use clipboard means the system messages are put into your paste-buffer, to be shown when you press CTRL-V. This program features a snooping of your Warcraft III whisper history (the Messages-tab), and here you can define whether Warcraft III Banlist should alert you of new whispers. Warnings for multiple players with the same IP in your game can be disabled here too.
Select a stylesheet to change the graphical layout of the Messages-tab to your personal preference.
-Miscellaneous: You can specify a default comment that will be tagged to a banlisted person when you have banned him using the in-game command /banlast. The other settings lets you select which banlists to use when using this programs checking options.

Messages:
Shows the history of whispers you have received and sent since you loaded up Warcraft III Banlist. Last message on bottom (as in the game). You can customize the looks of this section using the stylesheets available on the the Preferences tab -> Messages.

4. Troubleshooting / FAQ
Q: The program doesnt do anything, I am not receiving whispers in my Messages tab, and my "Recent Game" tab does not show my game or the players
A: Make sure that you have the right NIC selected. See chapter 2 on how to configure it.
A: Did you install the WinpCap drivers? Download them here: http://winpcap.polito.it/install/bin/WinPcap_3_1_beta_3.exe

Q: I do receive messages, and I do see players joining in "Recent game", but when someone joins who is on my banlist, nothing happens!
A: Make sure to enable one of the alert options provided by the program. Add a wav file to the event "Blacklist Alert", enable the running text or simply hit CTRL-V to display the latest program message.

Q: This idiot has just left my game. What is the easiest way to add him to my local banlist?
A: In Warcraft III, hit enter. Then type "/banlast" , withouth the quotes. Hit enter again. This will only work if you are the host. You can type "/check playername" (where playername is the name of the person that just left) to check if he is indeed added. If a sound is specified for the event "Ban Sound", this will also be played.

Q: What means "timed out" when I try to ping someone?
A: This means that no response was received (maybe due to a firewall that permits pings), so that no ping time could be measured.

Q: Im still having a problem, and i cannot solve it with this help file.
A: Go to http://www.banlist.nl/forum. Post your questions/problems in the "Banlist-Checker Issues" category.

Q: Where can i visit the Warcraft III Banlist website?
A: Right here: http://www.wc3banlist.de.
